The Problem with Media Piracy

Entertainers and artists use their talents, and investors give their money to make music and movies that they intend to be profitable. However, when that product is pirated and sold without their consent, this is equivalent to robbery. They receive no personal or monetary gain for their investment, while the pirate does, although he/she has invested nothing, but a blank CD. .
Piracy unethically also has a secondary effect. Because a pirated product is substandard, the consumer is often left unsatisfied with the product they purchased. In many instances, instead of blaming the quality of the product on the piracy itself, the consumer blames the poor quality product on the entertainer. This happens more often to musical entertainers. As a result, the artist is blamed for the substandard quality and future products made by him/her are less appealing and sales are negatively affected. In addition, consider the consequences of investing a large amount of money in musicians and actors who consequently do not make enough income. In the long term, they will lose the motivation of pursuing this profession because there would no longer be a benefit to creating music andor movies. These artists are not receiving what they deserve; therefore there is no point in continuing what they are doing. .
As a result, the music and movie industries may disappear if the problem of piracy continues in the long-term. .
So, why do people pirate music and movie CD's? The answer is because there is a major market for the product. We all know that the cost of purchasing a CD, downloading music and going to the movies has gone up significantly over the years. At the same time, the economy is on a downslide and more people are trying to do more with less money. Therefore, leisure activities are given less of a priority. Also, the companies raising the price in a declining economy are also unethical. They play a role in and are responsible for creating a bigger popularity of piracy.
