The Treaty of Verdun


After that, for a prolonged period of over hundreds of years the information and learning of the Middle Ages sustained to originate from the departments that Charlemagne created. Later on, the first sign of insecurity and affinities to suspension were started to developed when Charlemagne's replacement and his only living son, Ludwig I (The Pious), who was in the charge during 814 – 840. The basic and key feature of Ludwig's rule was the scuffle to keep unity in the kingdom, which was susceptible with separated authority, resulted due to Germanic ideas of legacy .
             Treaty of Verdun.
             For the duration of Ludwig's time in the power, there were many arguments and fights over ownership of lands among his children. After death of Ludwig those disagreement and fights advanced into exposed conflict between the brothers regarding the right for ruling the kingdom. To resolve this issue, while Ludwig was in power he came up with number of plans to divide the Carolingian Empire equally among all to resolve the issue. After death of Ludwig in the year 840; open fight was broke out between his three sons, Lothair (795-855), Louis (806-876) and Charles the Bald (823-877) to regain the power of the state. .
             In 842, Louis the German and Charles the Bald after defeating their brother Lothair in a war developed a coalition. During that phase of coalition, the values of separation were sanctioned and 120 commissioners were chosen and assembled in Metz in order to think through an egalitarian division. After three years of hostile fight, struggling and discussions, all the involving parties were settled over the legacy of their father, Louis the Pious, in Verdun in 843. The agreement was known as 'Treaty of Verdun' . .
             The Consequences of the Treaty of Verdun.
             As per the splitting treaty of Verdun, the entire kingdom was equally distributed among three brothers. The western side of the Franconian Empire went to Karl the Bald and the eastern region of the Franconian Empire went to Ludwig the German.
