            com is an international electronic commerce company with headquarters in Seattle, Washington. Jeff Bezos, previous vice president of D.E & Show and Co., a global investment firm, founded the company in 1994. Jeff left employment at D.E & Show to start Amazon.com from a simple setup in his garage. Bezos wanted to name the business with a name that began with the letter "A" so that it would appear early in the consumers search. Jeff Bezos settled on "Amazon," because the Amazon River was the largest river in the world - and that is what he wanted his business to be; the largest in the world. Amazon.com has grown with such great momentum that it is now the world's largest online retailer. .
             Amazon.com started as an online bookstore but soon diversified into selling compact disks, digital versatile displays (DVDs), video home system (VHSs), software, toys, apparels, furniture, food and jewelry. The company produces consumer electronics like the Amazon kindle book e-reader and the Kindle fire tablet computer. Amazon is a major provider of cloud computing services. Diversification, a corporate strategy to increase sales volume from new products and new markets has evolved over the years at Amazon. Amazon's Diversification entailed expanding into segment of the industry that Amazon was already capitalizing on. Amazon invested in promising companies outside the scope of existing companies.
             Amazon acquired new skills, techniques and new facilities resulting to its diversification. Amazon started at Jeff's garage with a handful of employees today employs more than 500 employees each year. The escalating employment rate is because of diversification that requires people with new skills and ideas. Amazon went from being one of the largest bookstores to becoming one of the largest stores that sell almost everything. Amazon has a very wide range of products offered online that can be conveniently ordered from home.
