Understanding Common Air Pollutants

Meanwhile, natural activity includes smoke from wildfires, and volcanic activity. .
Air pollutants are known to have an adverse effect on our environment, including public health. Air pollution causes increased morbidity and mortality (Peters, 2012). Pollution is something that we take for granted particularly in urban environment of today's 21st century. It has led to ignorance and it is pivotal for us as individuals to be informed of what air pollution is, their different form, and how it affects us and our environment.
TYPES OF ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTANTS AND THEIR TENDENCIES TO HUMAN HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT.
Pollution is caused predominantly due to human influence and our increased demand for energy. When fossil fuels are burned, they release different air pollutants that are known to be toxic to humans and the environment. Some of these emissions are also known to be changing the earth's climate (Gurjar et al., 2005). Carbon dioxide is the one of the most common of all air pollution and is known to be a major contributor to global warming.
Pollutants that are produced from the combustion of fossil fuels other than carbon dioxide include sulphur oxides (SOx), nitrogen oxides (NOx), particulate matter (PM), carbon monoxide (CO) and volatile organic compounds (VOC). These air pollutants excluding ground-level ozone are known as primary pollutants. Primary air pollutants are simply pollutants that are emitted directly into the atmosphere from their sources. These pollutants are known to react with the elements in the atmosphere such as nitrogen (78%) and oxygen (21 %) through chemical and photochemical reactions to create secondary pollutants (Wikipedia). A perfect example of a secondary air pollutant will be ground level ozone (O3).

             CARBON MONOXIDE (CO).
Carbon monoxide is one of the most common air pollutants it our world today.
