Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by J. The book is obviously a fantasy, which has as its central theme the classic struggle of good versus evil, Harry being the main character featured on the good side and his archenemy Voldemort on the bad side. The reason that I am describing this book as mysterious is that, although being on opposite sides, there seems to be a strange connection between Harry and Voldemort. "It is very curious indeed that you, Harry Potter should be destined for this wand when its brother-why, its brother gave you that scar. The wand chooses the wizard remember . I think we must expect great things from you Mr Potter . After all, HE WHO MUST NOT BE NAMED did great things-terrible, yes but great." Another mystery is that Voldemort cannot kill Harry after having several opportunities to do so. Harry has some sort of resistance to be able to survive evil attacks. You would think that Voldemort, being one of the most powerful wizards could kill Harry easily, but as we read, Harry defeats him in the final battle.
Harry Potter is set in two worlds, the muggle and the wizarding world only separated by platform nine and three quarters. The novel begins in a very realistic setting, so that when we enter the wizarding world where Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is, we fully absorb how fantastic it is. We see this fantasy world through Harry's astonishing eyes where we learn where all the tricks and traps of Hogwarts are. I think the contrast between the two setting's underscore the changes experienced by the main characters who in this case is Harry Potter.
I am now going to discuss the main themes through characterisation beginning with the central theme of good versus evil.
Harry Potter who is the protagonist is the hero of the good side in this book. He is everything a hero should be. He is brave, courageous, strong and reliable.
