             Sexually Transmitted Infections are everywhere. They have reached across the world and have expanded into becoming one of the biggest life-threatening infections that haunt America and all other countries in our world. Not surprisingly, the group that has become most vulnerable to these infections is adolescents and young adults. The most common infections that are spreading rapidly across countries such as Africa, Asia, Latin America and Europe are AIDS, syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. At least 95 percent of these infections are the biggest problems in the less developed countries. .
             Sub-Saharan Africa is among the hardest hit country by these infections. The most common infection that is haunting the citizens of Africa is HIV. HIV infections are growing at such a rapid pace day to day, and occur among people ages 15 to 24 who are sexually acquired. "Nearly nine million youth are infected with HIV, and 67 percent of infections occur in young women. Prevalence rates exceed 20 percent in several countries in southern Africa, and experts fear rates will rise in West Africa"(Nicole Cheetham 3). Of the 11.6 million HIV-infected youth worldwide, over seven million are female. The risk of infection for young women is heightened by their immature vaginal tract and easily torn tissue. Young women are also at heightened risk due to their lower status in society, which decreases their ability to negotiate condom use, and other cultural .
