CAM primarily focuses developing through research to support the use of holistic medicine. Also, CAM concerns itself with the development of research projects to further explore the safety and usefulness of holistic medicine. The information that is gathered through research in provided to the public; therefore, allowing patients to make knowledgeable, informed decisions when choosing and confining in alternative care (10). Also according to the American Holistic Medical Association, many colleges and universities are offer programs that specialize in the training of alternative practices. Some of these programs cover a vast variety of studies, while other focus on one specific form of alternative medicine. Different states required individuals to obtain certain license and certification in order to practice remedies. Acupuncturists, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists are all required to pass a national board through different accredited government organizations. .
The placebo effect is mainly about the power the mind has over the body. The brain is the main director of all body parts; however, when is comes to certain alternative treatment the brain does not control the outcome of the results. As seen in AADE magazine, "Guide to Diabetes," it list foods that are recommended for diabetic patients for the positive attributes they have on the patients health. Amongst these foods are strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries which help to regulate hypertension. There are also foods such as olive oil and salmon that help insulin function and insulin metabolization (34). In a book called, Get Fit Stay Well it list the top five leading causes of death in the United States and at the top of the list is heart disease and stroke (349). Also within the same chapter, list natural ways to control the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, amongst these are exercise, nutritious diet, and no tobacco and drug use (362-363).
