Fundamentally taught, I still questioned whether gay marriage is really so religiously incorrect and soon I began to question if Capital Punishment was perhaps not such a bad solution to rid the world of truly evil people. Historically this country was founded in religious pursuits and built by men loyal to a Christian god (Bronner). So of course religion would come to play a role in the debate with Capital Punishment. A basic belief of any Christian denomination is that Jesus has the power redeem and restore a believer's soul (Death Penalty Information Center). Capital Punishment swiftly takes that chance for redemption away for good. Most religious affiliated people, like me, merely agree with their denomination's belief. It becomes more about moral issue than a religious issue. Even as a non-religious body of people do we have the right to take someone else's life? What is the difference between pulling a trigger and pushing in a needle? As Angela Williams clearly states "we have to ask ourselves if we, as fellow human beings, have the right to determine who lives and who dies" (Williams). Religion supports the belief that murders can be redeemed, but even the atheists can acknowledge a moral argument that questions the power we give ourselves. .
Today we are ruled by an iron fist of convenience and money. Capital Punishment is no exception to that rule.
