Moreover a Senator that is not elected or chosen by a specific region does not have the ability to properly represent the people in the Government, as they do not understand the needs ad situations the population is in. In the past, the Senate has also blocked bills that have been democratically passed and voted upon by the House of Commons. They are able to do so by indirectly vetoing a bill by letting it sit in committee for so long that it simply dies on papers. This is an example of the corruption of the Senate, by purposely preventing democratic bills. .
More modest reforms of the Senate are important to many that withhold the Senate as part of the basis in which Canada's Parliamentary foundation was built upon. Nonetheless, minor reforms are indeed needed. To begin the Senates books may be opened to allow the public to access of the Auditor General. In doing so, the public will be assured that their tax money is being spent efficiently and properly. In addition to allowing spending to become transparent, the appointment process may also be opened up more to the public so they are not surprised by their representative and understand the Governor General's decisions. .
