The Years Leading Up to World War II

The unfairness resulted in fury from the Germans which contributed to the tension between countries and accordingly, contributing to the causes of the Second World War. Furthermore, because Britain and France felt sorry for Germany due to the injustice of the Treaty, Chamberlain introduced the Appeasement policy which gradually encouraged conflict between the countries.
Britain and Germany signed an agreement in 1935 known as the Appeasement policy. Britain followed a policy of giving Hitler what he wanted. The appeasement policy was introduced as an attempt to settle disputes between Germany and other countries but instead pursuing such a policy encouraged Hitler's aggression. Appeasement allowed Hitler to think that he could do what he pleased and he took many risks which resulted in war due to the squabbles over Poland. The policy was based on the proposal that Germany had three major issues that needed to be resolved. The issues included territorial complaints, economic problems due to paying reparations from the First World War and the absence of raw materials. Chamberlain believed that this policy would benefit Germany and encourage peace. However, they were drawbacks to this policy. It encouraged Hitler to be aggressive, it put too much trust in Hitler's promises, it allowed Germany to grow too strong and it scared the USSR in terms of the invasion of land. Nevertheless, the countries couldn't stop the policy because Hitler was giving them benefits. Hitler was standing up to communism and the countries also believed that the treaty was unfair and even if they wanted to start a war with Germany they wouldn't be able to, due to the economic problems from world war (I) The appeasement policy helped buy time for other countries to re-arm their forces and repair their economic system . In addition to that, the USA would not support them if they stood up to Hitler and Germany had stronger forces.
