Poetry Analysis - Who I Am?

You don't respect the pride I may have in myself.
I'm more alone than the rest of y'all.
Ain't nobody ever cared 'bout me.
You isolate me from everyone else.
You make me feel like my skin color makes me less of a man.
I'm cast out with not a friend in sight.
I ain't had nobody for a long time.
You call me a nigger; heck got me callin' myself that now.
You let me stay because of my bad back and I've seen them all come and got.
I see no one cares to say Hi to the lil ole colored man.
Nobody come in a colored man's room.
You know my back ain't no good but I doubt you care.
You know I'm pretty darn old but there ain't nobody to take care of me.
I sit alone trying to soothe my own pain.
No one understands the strife of an old black man.
You give me kindness that I now don't understand.
You look at me strangely when I don't answer in kin but you don't know.
I been treated so badly I've grown used to it.
Ain't nobody ever cared 'bout me.
You think I'm mean from being alone so long well you might just be right.
You think you know my kind but you don't know nothing bout us.
I still have some pride in myself rather you know it or not.
Ain't nobody gotta care bout me.
I'm a simple man: I like my own things.
I keep to myself and keep outta trouble .
I've been alone a long time and I've lost my trusting skills.
Have y'all figured who I am?.
I'm the stable hand and y'all would call me crippled.
I'm a simple colored man and I go by the name Crooks.
             Explanation To Who Am I.
In my poem I connected the themes of isolation and loneliness to the theme of prejudice. By writing from the point of Crooks and pulling out and inferring some things about the way he acts you begin to get an understanding of the way that men of color were treated in those times. The negative nature of the poem is a reflection of the negative nature of the times. Crooks is only one example of literature depicting the treatment and the effects of that treat me on men of color.
