Men, Work, Children and Paternity Leave

            Just because women get maternity leave there should be no reason why men should get it also. I don't believe they should because the baby didn't come out of them. Yes men should help with the child after it's born but you really cannot do much to help.
             I had a baby three years ago and the only thing I was able to help with was the changing of the baby. She would always feed the child. The only time I didn't help with the baby was when I was at work other than that I was taking care of it while she got some sleep. .
             When the baby slept you could get some sleep, but that's all the baby's do is sleep and poop. One of the reason woman get maternity is so they are there to take care of the baby and be able to breast feed. Men cannot breast feed a child. If the man does take off from work he should only get a couple of days for the wife or mother to rest after she just had the baby. After my daughter was born the next day I was back at work, and then took two days off so the wife could rest.
             One of the reasons that woman get maternity leave that I could think of is the weight gain they go through. They can a lot of weight and hold that weight for nine to ten months. With that much added weight it does damage to their back. So for the couple of months the woman gets off after they had a child is for them to get readjusted to the lack of weight. Men don't gain weight for nine months and then lose it in a matter of hours.
             There are some people who would love to argue the fact that they had a child they should be able to get paternity leave and then just sit around do nothing while the wife or the mother of the child does everything. Men should be helping with the baby and working to support the child. Having a baby eats a lot of money so you should be working not taking time off.
             Men shouldn't get paternity leave and just shut up and deal with it. Get your lazy ass to work and support your child. We were brought up in a society that the woman stays home and takes care of the baby.
