You might think that terrorism only takes place in a busy airport but the truth is its all around you. It's at the airport, the bus, the train, your school and even at your home. Terrorism comes in all forms and you can never be sure where it is or when it is. It is true that security and technology have improved since the terrorist attacks on September 11th but still how safe are you really? At any place especially one of mass-transit; you can be attacked at anytime without notice. How are you prepared? If we start answering that question we will be moving forward. We are still such a vulnerable country. September 11th changed us and showed us how unprepared we were, but if you really think about it, not much has changed in a way where we will be more protected at a random time in a mass-transit location. According to a survey conducted in my town, over 40% of people think that security it mass-transit locations, hasn't changed enough since September 11th. Over 60% do not feel safe in mass-transit locations.
This shows that the time to act could not be sooner. The federal government needs to prioritize its distribution of security funds by focusing on the most serious terrorist threats. Since airline hijackings can potentially cause thousands of deaths, as was demonstrated on September 11th, the government should continue to concentrate on preventing similar attacks, and making mass transit more secure. The government needs to be funding for this and not on other less important things. They need to use this money for research, technology, and equipment. Once the government puts in more funding for mass-transit security, the country will be a safer place, but it all starts when they start getting the funding for it.
Another issue with security is its invasion of privacy. The security methods that we use have gotten so intense that it has started to really upset people because of how much you can see from a body scanner.
