Unemployment - Handouts or Hard Work?

There are those who truly want to get back into the workforce, but with the economic issues in society jobs are hard to come by right? Wrong! We look for jobs we want as opposed to looking for a job that we need. With a time constraint to consider that would effectively give our unemployed citizens time to look, but less time to be fastidious. With a four to five year time frame that currently is prevalent in some states gives people too much time to themselves and makes them feel like they don't have to work. For example Paul, a longtime friend, was laid off his job because the company was overstaffed. He was able to live off unemployment for 3 years and simply stated, "Why work for slightly more money when the government will just pay me to fill out job applications? " This definitely ties him into a group that neither I nor other taxpayers can tolerate. .
To my naysayers, if you cannot perform your job and you have a family to support; disability is not something I would contest. This would be the best-worst case scenario. For example I have witnessed quite a few warehouse accidents in which it is not the employees fault. We like to use the phrase, "Time is money " and it definitely applies in this situation. My target audience, taxpayers and the state's government, have to come together to effectively resolve this issue. Unemployment beneficiaries will always make claims that they have filled out the minimum requirements for their state. Most states only ask that you apply to two to three jobs per week. With that in mind I have witnessed friends fill out job applications for company Chief Executive Officer or Department Lead positions simply because they know they would not get the job. Other times I have seen people get interviews and simply not show up in fear that they might get the job. In these instances this discredits my oppositions point because it shows a lack of effort and also a waste of the state and taxpayer's money.
