The Trouble of Euthanasia

Euthanasia, also known as mercy killing or assisted suicide, is a very controversial debate in the world today. Whether to rule euthanasia as legal or not is a very political issue in which both the pros and cons have a reasonable argument to overcome the other. Some believe that people have the right to decide how they control their life. Others believe from a religious point of view that we do not own our body and it was given to us by God. If a loved one was terminally ill, the family members could be tempted to put out of misery because the pain they saw from the ill family member was unbearable. However, many alternatives are now possible due to the advance in medicine and science which strays one's decision from euthanasia. .
Because euthanasia already exists in this world, many believe euthanasia should be legalized around the world and laws created to regulate it. "Incases where there are no dependents who might exert pressure one way or the other, the right of the individual to choose should be paramount. So long as the patient is lucid, and his or her intent is clear beyond doubt, there need be no further questions." (Independent 1). People who fight for euthanasia also believe that people should have their freedom and decide whether they want to live or die. In some eyes, death is considered a private matter, if the person's death does not harm others, other people have no right to interfere with the person's decision. Although euthanasia is legal in some parts of the world, most are against euthanasia. Many arguments can be brought up to divert the desire for euthanasia. The biggest fear of people who desire euthanasia is being abandoned. Many people do not know there are alternative treatments available. Palliative care and hospices are couple of treatments available that can help bring comfort to the ill. Palliative care is a medical comfort care for people with serious illness.
