Basic Kindness

Kindness is a powerful characteristic that comes straight from the heart. It is a characteristic that can be remembered for a life time, and shown in multiple ways, whether it is spontaneous kindness, planned kindness or fake-it-till-you-make-it-kindness. It is a quality that truly defines ones' intentions.
Spontaneous kindness, generally, is spur of the moment kindness. For instance, a person might offer a neighbor a helping hand or a lady with the groceries. A person might be walking down the street and see someone and smile and ask them how their day went. This type of kindness is simple but goes very far. It can be the highlight of somebody's day. A great example of this sort of kindness is a girl walking down the halls in school carrying a large amount of books in her hands. She accidentally drops all of her books on the ground. As she kneels down to pick up her books in a rush, a boy sees her struggling to get everything together. He runs over and helps her pickup of all of her books, making it less of a burden for her. The boy did not plan on acting on kindness in his day. It was just spontaneous. This simple act made a negative situation positive or a bad day a good day. The girl most likely went home feeling thankful someone helped her pick her books up, and the boy felt good doing it.
The second type of kindness is planned kindness. For instance, planning an anniversary dinner for your wife, or baking a cake for a friend's birthday. A good scenario of planned kindness is one day a mother receives an unexpected phone call from her daughter's sixth grade teacher, who explains to her mother that her daughter and a couple of other kids had been teasing and calling an innocent young boy names. The mother is very upset with her daughter's actions and knows that she was raising her daughter to be a better person than that. The mom generally has a talk with her daughter and asks her how she would feel if someone teased her.
