Regarding the fact that in China, the current official ideology of communism is quickly losing its credit in the public, one may expect possible political and ideolocial reforms in the country. However the ruling Chinese Communist Party (CCP) never clearly indicates that if it intends to loosen control for the potential reforms. In this essay, I will first discuss the relevance of a reform that is pressed by the Chinese people. In this part I will provide examination of the political awareness of the Chinese in terms of different groups, followed by the analysis of possible governmental countermeasures. Second I will discuss the possibility of a new legitimate ideology, by analyzing the feasibility of ideological alternatives.
Possibility of a Pressed Reform.
To examine the possibility of a reform that is pressed by the people upon the current communist government of China, we must first analyze the extent of political awareness of Chinese people. .
First we should not overlook the fact that the majority of Chinese population, especially the peasant and the working class, are being rather politically indifferent. Ironically, due to their sheer numerical superiority, workers and peasants should be the main force of any potential mass movement. However, in the protests that were initiated by the workers and peasants, political concerns were hardly mentioned. Instead the protestors mainly focused on economic grievances. For example, industry workers of Liaotie stated Liaoyang Demonstration in 2002 because of the mass layoff in the factories, the arrear of wages for the workers who stayed and the rampant corruption of local officials. The root of problems certainly lay in the flawed political system, yet according to Pans record in Out Of Maos Shadow, we must note that the protesting workers basically only focused on the above grievances in their letters to the central government . They hardly touched the issue of challenging the current ideology.
