Removing infected animals may be necessary to reduce the risk of animal-to-human transmission, but careful measures have to even be taken when burying or incarcerating the animal. The animals then spread the virus to humans, and humans spread it among themselves. Close contact with infected the infected person is one of the most common ways the virus is spread. "Transmission to healthcare workers has been reported when appropriate infection control measures have not been observed" (WHO 38). This is why it is important that people always wear protective gear like masks and gloves if they are going to be in close contact with an infected person, and they should continuously wash their hands. "These procedures have been sufficient to rapidly interrupt transmission in hospital settings in rural Africa" (Feldmann 33). Many symptoms of people with the disease are similar to common illnesses at first which is why every case is important.
             The ability for health care workers to recognize the virus is key.
