Hamlet Soliloquy Essay

A great amount of work was done into developing the well-known character Hamlet, who was created by William Shakespeare. Shakespeare bought Hamlet into the play as a confused prince with a mentality of a little boy. As new characters were introduced, it all changed for Hamlet. Turning him into a crazy young prince. In Hamlet's first soliloquy on page 29, Hamlet seems depressed and he views life as a meaningless use. Some how the characters manage to change Hamlet and his mentality. It's been a rough time for Hamlet considering his father, Hamlet Senior had just died. It seems that Hamlet really respected and looked up to his father, enough that even after two months of his death he could not overcome his feelings. Many believe this is why Hamlet says, "Or that the everlasting had not fixed his canon 'gainst self slaughter! O God, O God! How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable seem to me all the uses of this world!" It explains how he finds his life meaningless now. .
His mother Gertrude's wedding has also had an impact in the change of Hamlet's character. Hamlet's former uncle, now step-dad and new king of Denmark; did not care for Hamlet's miserableness, for Hamlet was a Prince and his step-dad felt that a Prince would not act like this! He then told prince Hamlet "Tis unmanly grief. It shows a will most incorrect to heaven, a heart unfortified, a mind impatient, an understanding simple and unschooled." In the eyes of Hamlet, King Claudius is calling him a child. From that point on Hamlet looked at King Claudius in a whole new perspective. Hamlet therefore says "But two months dead-nay, not so much, not two. So excellent a king, that was Hyperion to satyr" Here Hamlet is expressing his respect for his father, saying how great of a king he was. Much better than King Claudius, comparing Claudius to a satyr. .
Hamlet's mother, Gertrude impacted Hamlet's character as well.
