The Problem with Procrastination


            Delay, laziness, indulgence, and "putting forward until tomorrow"" could also define procrastination and it describes the individual voluntarily making irrational avoidance behaviors. According to different standards, procrastination can be divided into different classes. This research paper will be proven by analyzing many different causations and consequences of procrastination either due to internal personality or external emotion, and discuss ways to prevent procrastination. .
             It is necessarily to know the three basic characteristics for procrastination: voluntary, avoidance, and irrationality, before make the deeper level discussion. First of all, procrastination is self-determination and a voluntary behavior rather than an uncontrollable psychological issue. The second thing that keeps people from acting and causes procrastination is that procrastinators are not motivated to achieve the goal and are not willing to start the assignments if they would be forced to take action. Thirdly, procrastinator would resolutely choose to withdraw from the assignments even though they know that they are running out of time and the delay may bring them unfavorable consequences. .
             Procrastination is a complicated problem that is not caused by an abstract psychological disease, but categories based on numbers of the standards of procrastination. Trait procrastination is also named "chronic procrastination " and belongs to the personal internal psychology. In addition, trait procrastination can be divided into three other categories. Firstly, arousal type defines the procrastinator will only try to do their best in the last minute. Secondly, procrastinators act like the "avoiders " who are afraid of both success and failure, because they are afraid of risk and try to withdraw from the possibility of risk and responsibility.
