Leona Helmsy - Case Analysis

According to me, Leona Helmsley wasn't ethical at all. Ethics didn't matter to her when she wasn't the happiest. IN the video it shows that at many points she didn't show any ethics. For her it was only herself and her beneficiary. She abused her power as an empress. Her employees feared her. She wanted to everyone to be controlled by her. She controlled every aspect of her business and forced everyone to provide her benefits.
             2. How did her leadership style affect her ethical behavior?.
Leona as a leader was controlling, demanding, rigid, strict. She called herself the "queen" of the real estate empire that was built by her husband. She led by example and demanded strict attention to detail. She controlled everything in her estate business including financing, staffing and everything else. She created a bottleneck in her own organization. She forcefully took all decision of her estate no matter how small it was and She also overturned most of the decisions made by subordinates, causing morale to fall, and to increase the turnover. She wanted everyone to do excellent. She only wanted to be told what she wanted to here and so her employees did. They faked their loyalty. Leona acted as if she didn't care about anyone and she was the boss. After a while, she was finally convicted of income tax avoidance, conspiracy, false income tax filing and mail fraud. She never showed any ethical behaviors. This lack of ethical conduct was brought about by her controlling manner on managing and the extreme abuse of her power. .
             3. How did Leona Helmsley's abuse of power affect the way she did business?.
Leona abused all her powers and that brought down her estate. She demanded that all the vendors provide her with products. She expected kickbacks from liquor salesmen, free televisions, kimonos, and mattresses. She even affected the handymen who would maintain the properties and eventually the hotels started suffering from maintenance problems.
