Personally, it would be difficult for me to resist this temptation and I am confident that I am one of the many.
On the contrary, there are who show zero interest in their student's academics and leave it up to their child to self-motivate themselves. This is the approach my parents have decided to take with my siblings and I. In this case, I have found that this method has been proven most successful for me. I understand that everybody is different in the way that they are motivated, and other students may work better under the pressure that their parents provide them. Though the freedom my parents have provided me works for me it may not work for others. As long the need for academic success exists, students will always feel pressured to cheat. A good portion of parents have already done this, but if they put in the extra effort to figure out how their child is effected by the pressure they put on them, they might just be able to reduce that need for their child to cheat in the classroom. .
Another key piece in the academic dishonesty dilemma lies on the hands of the teachers and the professors. They have been accused of being dishonest when it comes to giving the proper grade to their students. Walter Williams wrote an article about how the college educational standards around the nation have dropped significantly over the last fifty years. According to Williams, the average grade point average (GPA) of college students in the 1930s was 2.35. When compared to the 2009 national average of the grade point average that is an astonishing 3.20, this raises some concern. Some people might say that people are just naturally getting smarter over time, but the statistics show that a huge flaw has entered the educational system over the years. Being a college student myself, I want to say that I do not believe this accusation. However I have personally experienced the intense competitiveness of colleges.
