Ballistic Missile Defense

             The Bush's decision to pursue Ballistic Missile Defense, in order to develop a functional missile shield against a limited missile attack from any rogue state, is and should be pursued by the Administration. I believe that the rationale that the Bush Administration is using correct in this situation. The future of the world at this point and time is quite uncertain. One day the world could be a great place to live, the next day, it could be nothing but death and destruction. The question that should be asked here is "why wouldn't the United States do everything in the county's power to try and protect themselves from outside threats such as rockets launched by other countries?".
             Since the use of missiles began in World War II, when Hitler used missiles to rain down rockets on Britain from France. People have wonder about what they could possibly use in their defense against this type of fast, unseen attack. What I"m trying to bring to your attention is the vulnerability of the state that is falling victim to the attacker. The country without a proper missile defense system can do nothing once that rocket has left the ground. With today's technology, that one or just a couple nuclear or chemical missiles shot at strategic targets thought the nation is all it would take to destroy the entire country. That is why I believe we must purse this system of defense. Even though this would probably be the largest monetary amount ever spent on a military type venture, I think that the benefits would far out way the cost in the end.
             This defense system would have a profound affect on the stability of the international system. I believe it would give both good and bad advantage to the United States. The good being able to step into any argument about weapons of mass destruction to stop organizations from building more missile of this type. This would give the United States less threat to worry about when a country threatens to use their missiles against us.
