Basic Anthropology Essay

This paper is about describing and identifying six skulls form ancient times. In this project, I used some outside sources with addition of what I have learned in class for the success of this paper. I talked about the morphological characteristics of each skull or cranium, I also talked about the fossil and a little of their family tree. The title to this project is "The Crania Project.".
Cranium A is called the Homo erectus, found throughout Africa, Europe, and western and eastern Asia with the earliest first fossil evidence dating to around 1.8 million years ago and the most recent to around 300,000. It is assumed that the species originated in Africa and spread as far as Georgia, India, Sri Lanka, China and Java. Here are some of the morphological characteristic of Homo erectus: they have large brains approaching modern humans, they are taller than habilis, and they have smaller teeth but larger than ours. The first elderly male belonged to a population of Homo erectus that spread from Africa to the Caucasus Mountains in western Asia discovered by a team led by David Lordkipanidze. The second fossil found was found in 1974, discovered by Kamoya Kimeu. It was about 1.7 million years old. The other discovered was in 1891, it was the first early human fossil recognized outside Europe. It is sometimes called "Java Man" because it was found on the island of Java, Indonesia. The naming and assignment of Homo erectus is controversial. Many of the features that distinguish Homo erectus from other hominin species, both earlier and later species, are seen in the skull. Homo erectus possessed otherwise uniquely human features, such as the juvenile growth spurt.   Thus, it is currently unclear if the growth pattern found in Homo sapiens evolved in Homo erectus or in a later species. The postcranial remains of this taxon have traditionally been interpreted as being very similar to those of Homo sapiens.
