Apollo - God of the Silver Bow

Leto went to Delos because it wasn't in the description of where she was forbidden to be, because it was an underwater island so, Apollo and Artemis were born. Apollo's first accomplishment was killing the feared monster, Python from Phytho. There also was an oracle who spoke prophecies as she inhaled gas from the Dragon's mouth. He did kill it, but because it was a son of Gaea, he had to then serve as a cowherd for 9 years. When he went back he came disguised as a dolphin. He came with priests to translate the prophecies. That was the first Oracle of Delphi. (Encyclopedia Mythica).
             Apollo had many love affairs. One of his affairs was with the nymph, Daphne. This love had been pressed upon him by Eros because Apollo said that he was terrible with a bow and arrow. This made Eros furious, and he shot Apollo with the love arrow. He then pursued Daphne for a very long time. When Apollo had caught up to her, he was about to embrace her, but Daphne's father turned her into a laurel tree. Apollo's most famous love affair with a mortal was with Hecuba. She was the wife of Priam, the king of Troy. Their child was Troilius, and there was a prophecy that said that Troy could not be defeated until he turned 20, but Achilles killed him before he turned 20. Apollo later fell in love with Cassandra. She said she wouldn't marry him unless he taught her the art of prophecy. He did, but she rejected him. He then put a curse on her so none of her prophecies would be believed.
             The God of the Silver Bow has had a very large impression on modern culture. Apollo is known as the inventor of the lyre. When Hermes was born, he crawled away and he stole all of Apollo's cattle. With the intestines of the cattle and a tortoise shell, Hermes made the first Lyre. A lyre is a 6 stringed instrument that is in the harp family. In fact, there is a musical company called Apollo's Swan and Lyre. The Lyre is an instrument that some people play today.
