Today in our world abortion if done the right way is one of the safest procedures, but if done unsafely can result in maternal death or hospitalization. Estimated today about 43 million abortions are done globally and less than half of those are done unsafely. 3 out of 10 women have an abortion by the age of 45. With the technology and science advances our world has made today there are many different methods for abortion. .
             Once scientific method used today for abortion is abortifacient pharmaceuticals. This method ranges in price from $300-$800. Abortifacient is a substance that induces termination. This substance is administered vaginally or orally. Also known as the "abortion pill" this method is usually used up to 9 weeks after the first day of the woman's last period. This method has proven to be successful resulting in working 97 out of 100 times. Just like any other medication the abortion pill has a set of steps. Your doctor in the office gives the pill to you; as soon as the pill is taken the medication abortion has immediately begun. Up to 3 days after taking the abortion pill, a second medicine is taken which empties the uterus. A follow up is necessary and it is most likely that the pregnancy has been terminated and the doctor will just be checking up. .
             Another scientific method used today for abortion is vacuum aspiration and could be used up to 16 weeks after a woman's last period. This method ranges in cost from $300 to $1,700 depending how late in pregnancy the procedure is being done. During this procedure the patient will be administered medication for pain, and also a sedative that allows the patient to be awake but very relaxed during the procedure. A tube is inserted through the cervix into the uterus and either a hand-held suction device or suction machine gently empties the uterus.
