Salvador Dali was a Spanish painter, sculptor, graphic artist, and designer who lived from 1904-1989. Although he was involved with the Cubism, Futurism, and Metaphysical movements, Dali was most famous for his contributions toward Surrealism. The artwork that Salvador Dali produced was greatly influenced by a number of elements; including the Renaissance Period, his mistress Gala, artists such as Pablo Picasso, World War II, and the Surrealist group that he was a part of. Also, while Salvador Dali used many different mediums to create his artwork, he mainly painted using oils with bright, bold colors offset by a large amount of dull, depressive colors. Salvador's use of colors was an indirect consequence of his involvement with the Surrealist movement.
Salvador Dali was considered one of the most famous representatives of the Surrealist Movement due to many reasons, including his outrageous public antics and eccentricity in his artworks. However, it was the unique way or style in which he painted that made Dali so famous. His main goal was to execute in an extremely precise manner the strange subjects of his fantasy world. Each object that he drew was drawn with painstaking exactness, yet it existed in weird position concerning other objects and was surrounded by an oppressive space which often appeared to recede too rapidly and tilt sharply upward. This perverted view of reality was representative of the emotional approach that Dali used.
