Thomas Edison and the Lightbulb

A thousand people were left out of jobs, and thus leaving the city in a state of turmoil. The Great Fire of 1794 in New Orleans was a less tragic fire but still could have been skipped if we had the invention of the light bulb. In the fire, 212 valuable structures were burnt to the ground. The city was left in ferment. Another terrible fire was The Great Chicago Fire of 1871. As stated by Richard F. Bales, A women tried to light a lantern in her barn when a cow kicked over the lantern and set the city on fire. A total of 17,450 buildings were burnt down. About 300 people's lives were stolen from this fire. The damage of the city was said to be $200 million in loss. In 1871, $200 million was about one third of the city's worth (Bales). All of the problems could be compared to a villain that is robbing cities, governments, and families. With every villain though, comes a superhero.
Thomas Edison was born on February, 11, 1847. He was always interested in science and inventing from a very young age. His teachers called him too dumb to teach, and no one thought he would be successful as he was. He was a very hardworking and patient man. As expressed by Montclair University, it took various try, test, and revise plans when it came to his invention of the light bulb. Edison did not invent the first light bulb but he did invent the first commercially practical one. Other inventors had invented their versions of the light bulb before him but most were very impractical. The lightbulbs world burn out too quickly, get too hot, or both. He had a lot of competition, but he took that as a good thing because then he was able to see what the other scientists did wrong so that Edison could work better and more efficiently. People that were also inventing the lightbulb and his scientific process throughout his inventing.
Benjamin Franklin was a tremendous help in the process when he discovered electricity.
