Stop Child Abuse

            One main reason I believe child abuse is a problem today is that parents don't know what they are doing. They decide to have kids but know absolutely nothing about them. Then they treat them as if they own them (Landar 115). In 1873 the first case of child abuse appeared. What saved the child was the rights of animals. Henry Bergh, the person defending her, was the founder and president of the ASPCA. He believed that children should be entitled to protection from abuse just as dogs and cats were (Landar 115). My solution to all these problems would have to be more parenting classes throughout every state. Every first-time parent should be required to take these classes before child is born and for the first two years of childs life. They would teach them what to expect from kids at certain ages, and how to discipline them. If parents don't attend then they will receive a heavy fine. Unless of course they have a reasonable excuse that can be proven. This class would ensure that parents know exactly what they are doing before they start, and go down the wrong path. .
             One other reason I believe child abuse is a problem today is that we aren't totally aware of it. When we are aware of it, we deny it, or say it isn't any of our business. (Landar 116) It is our business, everything about kids is our business. It is too often assumed that children don't need protection from anything, because they have parents that are supposed to look out for them. That isn't the case at all, we have children that need protection from their parents! (Landar 115). It is often believed that government has no right to tell people how they should raise their kids (Landar 115). Until these assumptions dissappear more children will die (Landar 116). We must pay better attention to the children. We must report any harm, sexual abuse, or neglect that we know about. "Take no chances." If they are unusually shy, or unusually friendly towards strangers it could be a sign (Bersharov 20).
