             As the markets are always very competitive and the conditions are tough to succeed in this has lead businesses to improve their CSR. However as businesses struggle to find a beneficial relationship between implementing CSR and their financial performance they are rather reluctant to do so (Burke and Logsdon, 1996). This essay will look at and discuss the benefits and issues faced with the applications of guidelines to sustainability reports.
             This is the business partaking in voluntary schemes that will benefit society and therefore make the business more appealing to the public. (Sprinkle and Maines, 2010). Another part of the implementation of the CSR is that stakeholders have a lot of input into what activities the business should carry out; this will be highlighted within the First Group Plc. .
             First Group PLC.
             First Group PLC are one of the major transport companies that operate in the United Kingdom and also in North America and they see CSR as being important to the company. (First Group PLC, 2014). Their CSR aims include discovering their most important sustainability opportunities and risks, develop plans to combat these issues and opportunities, add indicators to these plans to give an idea of how successful or unsuccessful they are and then report on the progress to the stakeholders. (First Group PLC, 2014).
             As they are a transport company one of the main CSR issues is carbon emissions and it is trying to be reduced all the time by First Group PLC. This main method to try and solve this is increasing energy efficiency of everything within the company. This is monitored with software installed on trains and buses that encourages more economical use of the transport methods. Research is also being put into find more economical uses of buses and trains. Their targets are being met as in 2013/2014 the amount of air pollution being produced was reduced and First Group PLC met the emission standards that are put in place.
