Rights of the LGBT Community

After seventeen years of development, the data showed that adolescents raised by lesbian mothers demonstrate healthy psychological adjustment (Gartrell). This study established that even though the childs parents were homosexual, it didnt render their development. Peter Sprigg claims that children who are not raised by their biological parents are more likely to experience social pathology, such as: drug use, arrest, and poverty. A loving mother and father may seem like the ideal situation, but in reality this isnt relevant in every household. Some children suffer abuse and neglect in a heterosexual household and some kids have only one parent; allowing same sex marriage will offer safe homes to many children (Kellard). Homosexual marriage will cause public schools to teach that gay marriage is acceptable and equal to heterosexual marriage (Sprigg). While it is reasonable that some parents dont want to discuss the issue of gay marriage, it is inevitable that their children will be exposed to this information whether it is in school or out of it. If these parents feel that public schools will provoke that interest it is within their rights to homeschool their kids (Kellard). Ryan T. Anderson argued that allowing gays to marry would leave an emotional connection the only thing that differentiates marriage from other bonds. The purity of the institution of marriage seems to be very important argument to adversaries of same sex marriage, yet they fail to recognize that this very institution has been redefined several times. For instance interracial couples were forbidden, for many centuries, to wed yet, today those couples are thriving; the argument of protecting the institution of marriage just doesn't seem to hold up (Kellard). Critics believe that if same-sex marriage was legalized employers would pay the price. They propose that same-sex marriage will cause for a drastic increase in the list of employees for whom they must provide spousal benefits for, yet, research shows that such coverage only adds about 1 to 2 percent to companies health care costs (Thompson).
