Taking a Stand - A Man for All Seasons

Every once in awhile, there is that one person who stands up and fights for what they believe in. This has to be a certain type of person, one who no matter what will keep straight his beliefs. A person who through thick and thin will keep the same frame of mind, a person who thinks their beliefs are worth dying for. That's what I think "A Man for All Seasons" is, someone who is willing to risk everything to not give in to what they are fighting against. There was one in the 1500's and that was Sir Thomas More who stood against the king getting a divorce. And I think equivalent to him is Rosa Parks, born in 1913. Rosa Parks was the first woman Civil Rights movement who succeeded in getting the country's attention about the country treating African Americans below the white race. Even though they are in different times of each other and obviously they have different things to fight for, they both share something in common, believing so deeply in their beliefs. .
Thomas More was a religious, well educated man who was King Henry VIII's right hand man. Thomas helped the king in making important decisions and assisted him with writing very important documents. But when King Henry couldn't have a male child with his wife, he wanted a divorce so he could marry again and produce a male heir for his throne. He got the consent from his council except from Thomas. Everyone else agreed just to save themselves. When the Pope wouldn't grant the divorce King Henry wanted to make his own church, the Church of England. Thomas believed that it wasn't right for the king to get a divorce. Everyone else just agreed with Henry because they didn't want to be trialed by high treason just like Thomas did. .
Rosa Parks grew up in the early 1900's when racism was high and equal rights were low, she grew up being put down and abused by the majority of the white population. She decided to take a stand. Just like Thomas, she knew that she could be beaten, put in jail, or even killed for showing and standing up for what she believed in.
