Citizenship and the Dream Act

This act has some flaws, as do many laws. A deontologist would look at this law and feel that some of the requirements are not moral. Many of these students were raised here and consider themselves American. These students should not have to go through a process of applications in order to receive the rights that any other American has. Many of these students were brought to the United States when they were very young and some did not even know they were illegal until they were much older and it was time to move on to higher education. This group of youth runs the risk of being deported after high school to a place they may not even know. Since most of these students have lived here for most of their lives, if they are deported, they are being sent to a place they may know nothing about. A deontologist would look at this situation and say that it is a morally incorrect law. If a person has been here their whole life and was raised an American like anyone else, they should not have to go through this process in order to become a citizen. .
If a person was brought into United States illegally when they were young children and went to school here their whole life, should that person be punished and get deported after high school? These students had no choice in the matter. Many of them were brought here to get a good education and have a better chance at succeeding. The parents brought their children here thinking that they would have a better opportunity than they would in their own country. Most of these students have really good opportunities up until they graduate from high school. Once they graduate from high school they can be deported due to their legal status. When these students finish high school they have the opportunity to fill out the dream act application and if accepted, become a citizen. I have a friend who has lived in the United States her whole life. Her parents brought her here when she was a baby and she went to school here from elementary school and graduated from high school.
