Environment and Economics in China

Even though China has not cared much about its environment that much but during the past 5 years actions of citizens have caused the governments and industries to rethink on focusing much on creating a sustainable environment. The article relates to the subject science as it talks about the environment and how it is important for a country to be sustainable. It needs to have a balance between its environment and usage of natural resources. The article states medical problems that are caused by air pollution or what the Chinese like to call it "airpocalypse," it talks about how the release of some specific chemical elements can affect a person's health. China being one of the largest users of coal (as a large energy source), overexploitation of this nonrenewable resource has caused the air to be contaminated. Coal accounts for 90% of China's sulfur dioxide emissions. Along with the air pollution that is caused by over exploitation of coal, water exploitation and pollution has also been a huge issue in China, over 11% of China's digestive system cancers are caused from unsafe drinking water. Almost 90 percent of underground water in cities and 70 percent of China's rivers and lakes are now polluted. In Shanghai last year roughly 16,000 dead pigs were discovered floating through the Huangpu River. Not only are the humans affected from the usage of coal and water contamination animal habitats are also being destroyed and causing the animals to die in larger amounts of numbers. .
In my opinion this article has stated many eye opening facts for a new reader. This article has stated facts of the negatives and the positives of China about what they are doing in order to redeem themselves from their actions of negatively impacting the environment. They are doing so by taking actions on reducing the greenhouse gas pollution in the environment. In the article it shows how Chinese citizens have stood up for the environment against the government and industries to save our planet Earth and to protect their own health.
