Women in Male-Dominated Sports

            Did you ever think that we would have women driving stock cars or even thinking about playing in any male dominated sports? Well look around - it is happening. Sports is considered one of America's favorite past times, but in reality sports have encouraged a separation between males and females in American Society. It is suggested that the attitudes of the athletes in sports are learned on the field and then breached into the world. The gender inequality is said to go far beyond the sports world, but you have male dominated organizations that support the sexes and with the separation of the sexes you can see social and cultural strains on athletes who play in opposite gender sports, because society frowns on women participating in male dominating sports. Danica Patrick was one of the females that came into the racing business and took a lot of criticism from the racing world. Danica got her start on the go-kart circuit when she was ten years old. Danica has competed in the Indy 500. In 2000, she finished second at the formula Ford Festival. In 2008 at the Indy Japan 300 she won the Twin Ring Motegi (SportsManagementDegree). As of today she remains the only woman to win an Indycar race and she is now over in the NASCAR circuit hoping to do the same. Danica's purpose here is to prove she can be just as great a driver as the guys out there.
             In basketball we have women who play this sport, but they are considered the WNBA, not the NBA. There has yet to be a woman to play in the NBA. The subject has been brought up, though. In April 2013 an article from HLN stated that Brittney Griner of Baylor has been said to be one of the best women college basketball players ever, but the question is would she be good enough for the NBA (HLN Diaz)? Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban spoke up and said not only would he give her a tryout, he would go as far as to draft her if she was the best player available for the NBA draft (HLN Cuban).
