Education - Students and IEP's

In Hicksville High School, the teachers here have encountered multiple problems with their students and faculty in order to try for their students to achieve and receive the best possible scores and results. Often times, students in the classroom are seen as having a disability when in reality, it is possible that they are not native english speakers or have other real world problems such as working to raise a family or receive an income for themselves and families. There are many problems when it comes down to determining and labeling a student as disabled or whether the student has other issues such as learning the English language. However with that being said, many teachers, such as the teachers in Hicksville high school, work with their students and other faculty members in order for the student to be as comfortable as possible in and out of the classroom. .
At Hicksville high school, the LPP program is very helpful with working with students who need extra help and time to get their school work done and for further explanation of misunderstood material. LPP provides students with two teachers Mrs. Cohen and Mrs. T who both offer different aspects to better stye students learning. Mrs. Cohen and Mrs. T work endlessly on helping the students with both their homework, papers, understanding of information and daily life problems in the LPP tutoring center. Mrs. Cohen, the teacher that mostly helps students with any subject they do not understand, works around the students disabilities and alters her teaching styles to accommodate the students needs. While Mrs. T, the english teacher, works with the students specifically with their essays and acts almost as a therapist and talks to the students when they look malnourished and tired in the class. When I sat down and interviewed them for my Group Inquiry Project, I first asked them which disabilities they mostly encounter in their classroom.
