Culture Comparison - Sweden and America

            Culture refers to the shared beliefs, knowledge, and values by a group of people. It is one of the aspects in the global society that has been used to define people. In most cases we will judge people according to their culture because it is what we have been brought up in. There are many cultures in the globe with some like the American and the Chinese cultures being very dominant in the world probably because of their strongest global economies. It is important to understand the cultures of different countries in the modern world. Because Globalization is real and people have to move from one country to another. People have to move from Sweden to America and the same way people have to move from the Americas to Sweden. Therefore, to avoid culture shocks, it is important for people to gain some little knowledge on the different cultures across the world. .
             The Comparison.
             The American culture and the Swedish culture are very different from different angles. To begin with, the two cultures differ largely because the Swedish culture is very collective and supportive while the American culture is individualistic. In Sweden people trust one another and they still trust the government. It is more of a socialist culture because one struggles to be part of a group. In America this is not the case, people struggle to stand out and separate themselves from the others. This is easily seen in the classroom whereby students in Sweden like answering questions in groups. It is more of chorus than an answer and everyone including the teachers is usually comfortable with that (Burroughs, Vicki and James 31). This is not the case in the America as students compete strongly and answer questions independently so that they can win the others. The nature of collectivist and individualistic in the two cultures is also seen when it comes to fashion. Teenagers in Sweden are much into fashion so that they can identify their friends.
