The Aids Epidemic and Advertising


            The AIDS epidemic became well known and renowned in the 1980s when society realized they must find a way to help cure this immense disease that many people were dying from. Following the 1970s and 1970s the age of rock n' roll, sex and drugs, the number became outrageous. However now people are taking big steps in helping find a cure and minimizing the percentage of people dying from this disease. With all the money invested in ad campaigns to advise people what to do and how to do it, the percentage of people dying have vigorously decreased. By displaying a superhero, wonder woman, in an ill state, this advertisement appeals to pathos in persuading the target audience to do something about the disease and help prevent it.
             The ad targets the general public to promote AIDS awareness. HIV is the virus that causes AIDS. This virus is passed from one person to another through blood-to-blood and/or sexual contact. Coming into direct contact with blood, semen or vaginal fluids commonly spreads HIV during unprotected sex with an infected partner. People usually get the virus by having unprotected sex with someone whose HIV status is positive or sometimes unknown. There is no cure for AIDS or HIV infection. This ad was made by a French anti-AIDS organization depicting super-heroes with the disease to promote that there's an equal chance that any individual can catch it and that no one is immune to the AIDS or HIV infection. Disturbing Advertisements such as these help promote awareness by alerting more people and illustrate that this infection is horrifying and devastating to people of all ages, genders, races, religions and nationalities regardless if you're gay, straight, a drug user or not.
             The reader would be attracted to this ad due to the frightening irony it is trying to convey. At first, the reader's eyes would go straight to the picture rather than the words because the picture is contradictory to the usual depiction of Wonder Women.
