Freedom from Homework

There comes a time in the life of every student, when the burden of homework becomes too much to bear. As students realize that there is more to life than having adults put unrealistic demands on their time, it becomes clear that it is time to declare independence from homework. First, does it really make sense to call it "homework"? Let's call it what it really is: school work. Think about this. Students have many more responsibilities that could be called "homework". Students are required to participate in other activities at home like doing the dishes, unloading the groceries, feeding the dog, making their bed, helping with laundry, vacuuming the floors, mowing the lawn, and countless other menial tasks that happen to cross a parent's mind. It only makes sense that those things would be called "homework". Yet, how often does a parent send a student to school for the day with a pile of laundry to fold or a basket of dirty dishes to be washed? It just wouldn't be acceptable for a parent to do that. So, how is it that a teacher thinks it is acceptable to send a student home with a stack of papers and books and a list of assignments that need to be completed for tomorrow's class?.
After sitting in class for seven hours every weekday, every month, year after year, every student needs a break. Each student should have time to spend on hobbies such as playing video games, playing the guitar, socializing with friends, or even exploring the wide world around them. When you add all the time we spend in class and then going home to more demands on our time you will find that most students have very little free time. It has been stated by our government that students should be physically active for several hours each week. So why doesn't our government take responsibility to limit a teacher's rights to assign "homework". Most students would actually do better in school without all of the stresses that homework causes.
