Schizophrenia means, "split mind" which makes people believe that this illness is a multiple personality disorder, but it is really referring to the split from reality. While there is still a stigma attached to this illness, public awareness and support is critical to help people with Schizophrenia function in life. Schizophrenia runs in families, which means that it has genetic traits that are inherited. Schizophrenics possess different brain structures and brain chemistry. Often the environment plays a role through the introduction of viruses and nutrition problems in the months and weeks prior to birth. The illness is a lifelong condition for which there is no cure. Taking psychoactive drugs during adolescence can cause Schizophrenia. Early diagnosis of the symptoms is critical for understanding the onset of the mental illness and the specific type. I decided to choose Schizophrenia as my topic because I have worked with teenagers my age with this illness. I wanted to learn more about how their mind works and if there is any way that I can help them. I also decided to do this topic because Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh had Schizophrenia. I have learned that the books that his father A.A. Milne wrote were based on the hallucinations Christopher Robin had. They also showed the process of Christopher Robin learning how to function in society. The other characters in the books where the different emotions that Christopher had. He would talk to them like they were real people and become the character he was talking to by changing his emotions. .

There are three types of Schizophrenia, which are Catatonic Schizophrenia, Disorganized Schizophrenia, and Paranoid Schizophrenia. Catatonic Schizophrenia is different from the other types of Schizophrenia because these people have different episodes and their symptoms are more noticeable. An episode may last for a month or longer if not treated.
