Defining Schizophrenia

During these episodes, they seem to be in a coma. When this is happening, they have trouble speaking, moving or responding. Disorganized Schizophrenics have trouble following step-to-step instructions. They are unable to carry out routine and do daily activities such as bathing and meal preparation. Disorganized Schizophrenics do not understand the reason for bathing and have to be reminded over and over to bathe or wash their hands. The people with this illness tend to lash out when they get frustrated and agitated. Their speech becomes disorganized and nonsensical. This makes it hard for them to express what they need or want to others; which makes them frustrated. .
             Paranoid Schizophrenics have delusions and can hear things that aren't real. The person may believe that they are real. He or she may believe that someone is trying to hurt them or their family. This makes it hard to trust people. Paranoid Schizophrenics prefer to be alone. A symptom of this illness is auditory hallucinations. This means that they can hear voices that are only in their mind. This could be a single voice or many different voices. These voices may make this person do harmful things to themselves or others. They also have delusions. A common delusion is that they are being singled out for harm. Delusions can result in aggression. These people feel they need to act out in self-defense. Generally, anyone under the age of 45 can develop Schizophrenia. It can affect men and women equally in all ethnic groups. The average age that men develop the mental illness is 18; for women the age is 25 years. One in every 100 adults has Schizophrenia. Teens can also develop this illness. Children under the age of 12 have a rare chance of developing Schizophrenia while 1 in 40,000 children develop Schizophrenia. Symptoms can start between the ages of 16 and 30. Regardless of the person's age, the causes of Schizophrenia are usually the same.
