Safety.
In responding to a crime scene, the investigator or technician may find the possibilities of being exposed to any of three different types of hazards or safety conditions. Bio-hazards, Chemical hazards, or Physical hazards (Byrd, 2000). Safety is very important because it can protect the physical well-beings of the officers and other individuals. Paying very close attention to your surrounding plays a key factor in identifying your potential safety and health hazards. It is the first responder's job to search the premise to make sure there is nothing hazardous. Some examples of these potential health and safety hazards mentioned at a crime scene would be; any water leaks, fire, broken glass, gas, and any other materials that can be found at the site of the scene. If so then the first responder should call the correct personnel to expose it. .
Investigator.
The role of the investigator is to document the scene with adequate and appropriate methods. The methods include taking constant notes, photographing the scene location and evidence, preparation of sketches, collecting evidence, and reports. The investigators also get information from both witnesses and suspects. The investigator must contact the first responding officer to obtain information about the crime scene when he/she arrived. The first responding officer should tell the investigator where the pathway was or areas people enter. The investigator should also tour the scene with the officer and make notes. The investigator is in charge with conducting a primary survey, along with a walkthrough. He/she should establish a plan for processing the scene. Make sure each team member knows what their role is. Advised everyone which role they are contributing to for instance, collecting evidence, photography, sketches, searches, and etc.
