Country Overview - Cuba

The landscape of Cuba made other countries want to trade with them in order to receive their prized resource of sugar. Sugar was a very key resource which put Cuba on the map in making them a strong trading partner. There are a lot of sugar cane fields located in Cuba in which a lot of slaves worked on those fields on a 12 hour a day basis. The United States had full control over the sugar industry which made them a lot of money. According to statistics, Cuba's size makes it the seventh largest island in the world. Cuba's geography has made an impact on countries all over the world by its sugar production and its natural resources. U.S took advantage of its resources and took control in order for the U.S to become even more powerful. The various sugar cane fields, the slaves that were imported in order to produce and the climate of Cuba also contributed to it. The plantations which have transitioned into smooth rolling plains with its mountainous areas. Its unique rivers, plains, mountains have all contributed to the creation of Cuba. .
             Cuba is the largest Caribbean Island making is no surprise that is has over 11 million people. The greatest amount of people are concentrated in the Cuba's capital of Havana. With a population of 2.116 million people, Havana not only is a great tourism attraction as well as a popular place for Cubans to have their homes. With the large amounts of people in this country one would think that the growth rate would be increasing, but the contrary is happening. The population growth rate of negative 0.14%, there are more Cuban leaving the country than there are births. Mainly because some people don't agree with the political policies of Cuba and some people are trying to find another place where they could economically flourish. For the same reasons, the migration rate is at a negative 3.64 migrant(s) for every 1,000 population. Most people don't see Cuba as a thriving country where their would like to start a life.
