Homophobia and Brokeback Mountain


            Many people have negative social attitudes regarding homosexuality and these attitudes impact the public and private lives of LGBT individuals. In the novel, "Brokeback Mountain," by E. Annie Proulx, Ennis and Jack both have inner conflicts in their private lives. Ennis marries his fiancé, Alma, but has internal problems because he does not want to be tortured and murdered like the guy he saw as a kid. He also does not want to abandon his family and kids. Jack, on the other hand, marries Lureen but lives a miserable life because he wants to create a life with Ennis, But Ennis won't agree to it since he is so terrified. As a 'gay couple', they couldn't have been married, or live together, held hands in public, had kids, have martial right like see each other in the hospital, and in some places it was illegal to even have sex with somebody of the same sex. And, in the end Jack was murdered b three men who brutally beat him and killed him. It paints a vivid picture of how gays were treated in America. Brokeback Mountain is a love story where the most raw, and richest desire cannot find its authentic wings because of the incredible fear if what their feelings truly mean about them, Their masculinity, and about being denied respect and equality. Neither Ennis nor Jack ever heard a single kind or respectful word about their tender and cherished feelings. Love is powerful, but unless our feelings are reflected back to s in the love and respect of others, it's all but impossible to embrace them we. No one overcomes the cancer of homophobia in isolation, and we have a collective responsibility to see that no one has to try. .
             Internalized homophobia refers to negative stereotypes, beliefs, stigma and prejudice about homosexuality and the LGBT. Some studies have shown that people who are more likely to have repressed homosexual desires. The researchers noted, "These people are at war with themselves and are turning this internal conflict outwards.
