Film Summary - The Boondock Saints

They come from an Irish Catholic background, which means even if they aren't related to the people in their community; they are a close-knit family and will protect each other. They attend church and say a prayer before they kill a bad guy. There is a point at the end of the movie when the viewer can hear their dad's voice as they walk into the courtroom. He is saying, "never shall innocent blood be shed, yet the blood of the wicked shall flow like a river. The three shall spread their blocked wings and be the vengeful strike and honor of God." This raises a question: who are they to play the role of both judge and jury? At the very end of the film, a news report is shown interviewing people about the brothers. The argument is split. Some people were saying these guys are heroes and that there should be more people like them around. Others even said that they'd help them out, that they are killing someone but it's for the greater good. Some were saying that what the brothers are doing is completely wrong. They shouldn't have the right to decide someone's fate and whom they should kill and not kill, they shouldn't kill at all. The people who are against it should understand they aren't just killing random bad guys and they have a reason for everyone they kill. .
The characters in the film had more to them than what appeared on the surface and they were related to the theme of the film more than I realized the first time I watched it. The McManus brothers, who are Irish Catholics, would do anything to protect one another. In the first scene of the movie, the viewer learns right away the brothers have mannerisms they developed in the church. They have a strong bond that's shown in the scene when two Russian mafia members break into their apartment. One of them handcuffs Connor to the toilet and says, "I'm not going to kill you, I'm going to kill your brother." This cuts the brothers to their core.
