Personal Changes for a Healthy Diet

Is health the key to a happy life? If so, I am on my way to a whirlpool of depression. Since the seventh grade, I have devoted my free time to basketball, and other enjoyable fitness activities. Half the reason I started these hobbies was my desire to look like the guys in the muscle magazines. Although I managed to shed the excess pounds, I never learned the importance of nutrition. I simply cut back on my favorite fast foods, and exercised till exhaustion. Due to this, I have continued my unhealthy eating habits, whenever I felt I deserved it. Since I understand the concept of progress, I have planned to take small steps towards a healthier life. I'm making a promise to myself to incorporate more spinach, and dark green vegetables in my diet for at least a week. .
Finding healthy food is never a difficult task when living with a mother like mine. Due to her healthy ways, the refrigerator has been remodeled into an organic hoard. Ever since my grandmother was hospitalized due to a lifetime of poor eating habits, my mom has decided to completely change her diet, as well as the food that she chooses to serve to others. I'd have to be crazy to watch my grandmother lay in critical condition, without making a change to my own diet. Since I often eat at my grandmother's house, my diet is very similar to hers. Despite having my eyes opened to what my mediocre diet could do to my health, I have yet to catch on to my mother's sometimes maniacal diet. The taste of tofu, dried fruits, and large glasses of detoxifying water, simply do not satisfy my adolescent appetite. In order to make my goal of a healthier diet more realistic, I had to find a way to trick my taste buds. I managed to do this by blending dark green vegetables, with fruits such as pineapples, strawberries, and acai berries. Although the finished product of the blending was a dark green smoothie, that resembled throw up, the taste of the awkwardly colored beverage was heavenly.
