The History of Duke Basketball


            The History of Duke Basketball is one of the most cherished things in sports history. Starting with the first year of Duke Basketball, it has grown into one of the finest college programs in the world. Duke has won four national championships, two being in in 1991 and 1992. The next one Duke wins is in 2001, and then the most recent one is in 2010. All of these championships are under Coach K. Coach K is one of the winningest coaches in College History. Duke Basketball will be known as one of the top teams to ever play in College basketball history. In the recent years of Duke, they have had some solid programs. Duke strives to win a title every year, most of the time they have the talent too. Coach K builds up the potential in the team every year. Duke Basketball is made up of hard work, determination and love for the game from the bench players to the best of all time.
             Duke Basketball is not just about the fame, it is about hard work that leads to championships. Duke has never won a game without putting in the best effort they have on the court. Coach K wants the best players out on the court that want to play and put in work to the best of their ability. One thing that the players learn when they walk out of that gym is defense. Duke Basketball has been built around defense since it started. One of the sayings Duke goes by is "Defense leads to championships"(by Sports Illustrated) Better defense leads to a good offense. Players like Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, and J.J. Redick are people that based everything they did on hard work and love for the game of basketball. The first championship Duke won is when Grant Hill, Christian Laettner, and Bobby Hurley were in their prime. That team is arguably the best team in Duke History. In 1991, Duke was literally on a roll. No one in Duke's path could stop them, not even Shaquille O'Neil. Coach K was using the best coaching knowledge he could with the great talent of the players.
