Speaking the Language of Love

Romanticism is defined by social psychologists as an overlook on relationships that love should the most important criterion in choosing a suitable mate. Although the common belief is that women are more romantic than men, recent surveys have shown that on average men outscore women in romanticism; however this is not a solid fact. In fact, out of the many studies that have been conducted on this subject, there is not a study that proves it one-hundred percent. One such study has shown that there is not a gender difference in romantic beliefs. Due to the fact that love is an irrational emotion, there should not be a gender placed on how an individual speaks the language of love. The three factors that define how you speak the language of love are your personality, your personal love language, and the environment in which you experience love.
As said by Jodi Picoult, "You don't love someone because they are perfect. You love them in spite of the fact that they're not." Everyone of us is different, ergo we like different things.Your personality determines what you like in someone else. I find that I am attracted to people who are similar to myself. Generally speaking, you will find that you are drawn to people who have features that are synonymous to your own; however, there are people who search for the exact opposite characteristics of themselves in other people. This would indicate that at times opposites do indeed attract. Again, this generally depends on who you are and what you like.
Your personal love language corresponds with your personality. Relationship counselor and author of The 5 Love Languages, Dr. Gary D. Chapman, wrote in his book that the five love languages are words of affirmation, physical touch, quality time, acts of service, and gifts. Based on your personality and what you prefer, you will likely fall under one of these categories. Some individuals love in a way where they require words of affirmation.
