Europe and London finally realized how important it was to have a fire department, but it still took time for government to agree with them and buy in completely and create an organized department. In 1865 the first Fire Brigade was formed and it affected people greatly since it watch over the people and the town. Two major cities had fire departments which then inspired other cities to do the same.
The problem of a fire wasn't ever going to go away, but they began to learn how to control a fire and deal with it, soon it started to become an obsession. People began learning how to out think the fire and handle its destructive path. The year 1607 when the first colonist came to America, there were a lot of concerns with fire since there were large populations and small buildings. Since buildings were built close to one another any little fire would spread quickly and also grew quickly. The colonist used fire for everyday needs such as: Candles to light their houses, they would cook over an open flame; they would also use the fire to warm their house. They used fire for the same things we would use fire for but theirs was open which made it a whole lot more dangerous. It was obvious why so many fires occurred. After so many fires, and so much destruction that occurred in Jamestown the government finally stepped in to help and make a decision that there was something that needed to be done to protect the town and all of its value. The colonists were only able to transport water in buckets, and the buckets weren't able to carry a lot of water at a time so you could imagine how long it would take. They used ladders to improve the angles so they could get on top and be able to put water all of over the area. The first fire truck was purchased in America in 1658 from England. The fire truck helped protect Jamestown a lot it didn't really have a great effect in the cities because of the expansion of the new Colony.
