Romantic love possesses strength greater than many other emotions. It has the ability to influence a person's decisions and change the course of people's lives. It is an emotion that two people can feel so strongly for one another that they can't imagine life without their partner or the emotional feeling that the partner gives them. Therefore, marriage must be the only way to ensure that the feeling never dies within them. Can an emotion really die if it has the strength that love possesses? Love should be something that two people are comfortable enough with to trust that it will never die. Love is an emotion that should have the strength to withstand the test of time, with or without marriage. .
The word commitment provides the same sense of assurance and dedication, whether it is said in ceremony, stated in writing, or simply believed and felt in the hearts of two lovers. This is another reason why couples can commit to one another for life without having to be legally married. Several couples perform in-home ceremonies, in which they exchange vows. These ceremonies are not "official." But to the couple they believe in their hearts that they are now married. Also, some families originate from relationships that haven't involved marriage.
